Definition of Interrogative Sentences in Hindi: वह वाक्य जिसमें कोई प्रश्न पूछा जाता है, Interrogative Sentence कहलाता है। प्रश्नवाचक वाक्य का प्रयोग प्रश्न पूछने के लिए किया जाता है। प्रश्नवाचक वाक्य को Question form भी कहते हैं। इन वाक्यों का प्रयोग प्रश्न पूछने (Asking question) के लिए किया जाता है। जैसे;

  • क्या आप नाराज हो?
    Are you angry?
  • क्या वह घर जा रहा है?
    Is he going to house?
  • क्या सोहन कानपुर में रहता है?
    Does Sohan live in Kanpur?
  • क्या यह आप की घड़ी है?
    Is this your watch?
  • क्या ये फूल ताजे नहीं है?
    Are these flowers not fresh?
  • राजेश कहां पढ़ता है?
    Where does Rajesh study?
  • आपके पिताजी अखबार कब पढ़ते हैं?

Note: ऊपर दिए गए वाक्य Interrogative Sentences के Examples हैं। इन वाक्यों में कुछ Sentences  ‘क्या’ सब से शुरू हुए हैं तथा कुछ वाक्यों के बीच में प्रश्नवाचक या प्रश्न सूचक शब्दों का प्रयोग हुआ है। अतः ये सभी प्रश्न सूचक वाक्य या प्रश्नवाचक वाक्य है।

Interrogative Sentences दो प्रकार के होते हैं;

  1. Yes-No Type Questions
  2. Wh-word Type Questions

Yes-No Type Questions

Definition of Yes-No Type Questions: वे वाक्य जिनके आरंभ में ‘क्या’ शब्द आता है तथा ‘क्या’ की अंग्रेजी के लिए is, am, are, was, were, can could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must, do, did, does, have, has, had आदि (अर्थात primary auxiliary तथा model auxiliary में से कोई एक) वाक्य के आरंभ में रखे जाते हैं, वे वाक्य Yes-No Type Questions कहलाते हैं। जैसे;

1. क्या आप एक अध्यापक हैं?
Are you a teacher?

2. क्या तुम जयपुर जाओगे?
Will you go to Jaipur?

3. क्या तुमने अपना काम समाप्त कर लिया है?
Have you finished your work?

4. क्या तुम कल गांव देने गए?
Did you go to village yesterday?

5. क्या वह 2:00 बजे से आपका इंतजार कर रहा था?
Had he been waiting for you since 2 o’clock?

6. क्या तुम उस कहानी को दोबारा पढ़ोगे?
Will you read that story again?

7. क्या मैं आपको मिल सकता हूं?
May I meet you?

8. क्या राधिका अपना काम कर रही है?
Is Radhika doing her work?

9. क्या सोहन विदेश में रह रहा है?
Is Sohan living abroad?

10. क्या डॉक्टर के जाने से पहले मरीज दवा खा चुका था?
Had the patient taken the medicine before the doctor left?

Note: ऊपर दिए गए Interrogative Sentences के आरंभ में ‘क्या’ शब्द आया है तथा उनके Translation का पहला शब्द टेंस के अनुसार Auxiliary Verb या Modal Auxiliary Verb का है। इन वाक्यों में प्रश्न पूछा जा रहा है। आप जानते हैं ऐसे वाक्यों का reply  Yes या No में दिया जाता है। इसीलिए ये वाक्य Yes-No Type Questions कहलाते हैं।

Wh-word Type Questions

Definition of Wh-word Type Questions: वे वाक्य जो किसी प्रश्नसूचक शब्द Question word से आरम्भ हों, वे Wh-word Type Questions कहलाते हैं। Wh-word Type Questions प्रश्न सूचक शब्दों जैसे; What, where, when, who, why, whom, whose, how, which, how many, how much, how long, how far  आदि का प्रयोग होता है। जैसे;

1. तुम क्या कर रहे हो?
What are you doing?

2. आपकी कार कहाँ है?
Where is your car?

3. यह किसने कहा?
Who said this?

4. वह आगरा कब गया?
When did he go to Agra?

5. दरवाजा किसने खोला?
Who opened the door?

6. यह बच्चा कितना दूध पीता है?
How much milk does this child drink?

7. आपकी पुस्तक कौन सी है?
Which is your book?

8. तुम पार्टी में किसी आमंत्रित करना चाहते हो?
Whom do you want to invite to the party?

9. वह घर किसका है?
Whose house is that?

10. इस गांव में कितने पेड़ है?
How many trees are there in this village?

Note: उपर्युक्त वाक्यों में प्रश्नवाचक शब्द Interrogative Words का प्रयोग प्रत्येक वाक्य में हुआ है। यह सभी वाक्य प्रश्नवाचक शब्दों से मिलकर बने हैं। इन वाक्यों के माध्यम से किसी जानकारी, दशा, स्थिति, समय या किसी व्यक्ति के बारे में प्रश्न पूछा जा रहा है।

Assertive Sentences (विधि सूचक वाक्य) से Interrogative Sentence (प्रश्नवाचक वाक्य) बनाने के मुख्य नियम निम्नलिखित हैं;

Rule – 1. यदि Affirmative Sentences में is, am, are, was, were मुख्य क्रिया (main verbs) की तरह प्रयोग हो तो प्रश्नवाचक वाक्य बनाने के लिए इन क्रियाओं को वाक्य के (subject) कर्ता से पहले लिखा जाता है; जैसे –

Assertive  Interrogative 
This is a black cow. (यह एक काली गाय है।) Is this a black cow? (क्या यह एक काली गाय है?)
I am happy today. (मैं आज खुश हूं।) Am I happy today? (क्या मैं आज खुश हूं?)
तुम एक जादूगर हो। ( You are a magician.)  Are you a magician? (क्या आप एक जादूगर हो?)
कल बहुत सर्दी थी। (It was very cold yesterday.) क्या कल बहुत सर्दी थी? (Was it very cold yesterday?)
These players were tired. (ये खिलाड़ी थके हुए थे।) Are these players tired? (क्या यह खिलाड़ी थके हुए थे)

Rule – 2. किसी वाक्य में Can, could, may, shall, should, will, would, must, have, has, had आदि क्रियाएं यदि सहायक क्रिया के रूप में आए हैं तो इन क्रियाओं (verbs) को वाक्य के कर्ता (subject) से पहले लिखने से प्रश्नवाचक वाक्य (question form) बन जाता है; जैसे-

Assertive Interrogative
He can swim across the river. (वह नदी पार कर सकता है।)  Can he swim across the river? (क्या वह नदी पार कर सकता है?)
It may rain today. (आज बरसात हो सकती है।) May it rain today? (क्या आज बरसात हो सकती है?)
You should eat fruits. (आपको फल खाने चाहिए।) Should you eat fruits?क्या आपको फल खाने चाहिए?
Sohan will go to Agra tomorrow. (सोहन कल आगरा जाएगा।) Will Sohan go to Agra tomorrow? (क्या सोहन कल आगरा?)
I have a new umbrella. (मेरे पास एक नया छाता है।) Have I a new umbrella? क्या मेरे पास एक नया चाहता है?

Rule – 3. Present indefinite tense के वाक्यों में I,we, you, they अथवा plural nouns के साथ सहायक क्रिया do का प्रयोग subject (कर्ता) से पहले किया जाता है और कर्ता के बाद में verb (क्रिया) की first form लिखी जाती है; जैसे –

  1. क्या तुम पत्र लिखते हो?
    Do you write a letter?
  2. क्या वे क्रिकेट खेलते हैं?
    Do they play cricket?
  3. क्या लड़के दौड़ते हैं?
    Do the boys run?
  4. क्या सोहन और मोहन गाना गाते हैं?
    Do Sohan and Mohan sing songs?
  5. क्या हम प्रतिदिन विद्यालय जाते हैं?
    Do we go to school daily?
  6. क्या मैं आपको अंग्रेजी पढ़ाता हूं?
    Do I teach you English?

Rule – 4. Present indefinite tense के वाक्य में यदि he, she, it अथवा singular nouns वाक्य के कर्ता subject हो तो आदि के पहले does लगाकर subject करता के पश्चात verb की first form लिखी जाती है; जैसे-

  1. क्या राकेश बाजार जाता है?
    Does Rakesh go to market?
  2. क्या वह 2:00 बजे काम करता है?
    Does he work at 2 o’clock?
  3. क्या यहां हर दिन बारिश होती है?
    Does it rain here everyday?
  4. क्या सुबह 7:00 बजे कार्यालय जाती है?
    Does she go to office at 7 o’clock?

Remember:- यदि वाक्य Who हो से शुरू होता है तो Main verb में s या es जोड़ते हैं। जैसे;

  • तुम्हें अंग्रेजी कौन पढ़ाता है?
    Who teaches you English?
  • दरवाजा कौन खटखटा आता है?
    Who knocks at the door?

Rule – 5 . यदि वाक्य Past Indefinite Tense का हो तो प्रश्नवाचक वाक्य बनाने के लिए प्रत्येक subject (कर्ता) से पहले did लगाते और कर्ता के बाद वाक्य की मुख्य क्रिया की first form आती है; जैसे-

  1. क्या तुमने फल तोड़े?
    Did you pluck the fruits?
  2. क्या पुलिस ने चोर को पकड़ा?
    Did the police catch the thief?
  3. क्या उसने आपको सलाह दी?

  4. क्या तुमने कल उसे देखा?
    Did you see him yesterday?
  5. क्या उसने एक नई गाड़ी खरीदी?
    Did he buy a new car?

Rule – 6. Present indefinite tense तथा past indefinite tense के Interrogative Negative Sentences बनाने के लिए Subjects के बाद नोट जोड़ देते हैं। जैसे;

  1. क्या वह आपको नहीं जानता है?
    Does he not know you?
  2. क्या सोहन 2 घंटे नहीं पढ़ता है?
    Does Sohan not study for 2 hours?
  3. क्या उसने यह पुस्तक नहीं पढ़ी?
    Did he not read this book?
  4. क्या मिस्टर शर्मा ने आपको अंग्रेजी नहीं पढ़ाई?
    Did Mr Sharma not teach you English?

Rule – 7. Future tense के वाक्य एवं modals का प्रयोग करने पर will/shall या modal verb को वाक्य के आरंभ मे रखते हैं। जैसे –

  1. क्या मैं पुस्तक पढ़ूंगा?
    Shall I read a book?
  2. क्या वह कानपुर जाएगा?
    Will he go to Kanpur?
  3. क्या तुम दौड़ रहे होगे?
    Will you be running?
  4. क्या लड़के कानपुर जा चुके होंगे?
    Will the boys have gone to Kanpur?
  5. क्या प्रधानमंत्री जी भाषण दे चुके होंगे?
    Will the prime minister have delivered a speech?
